Village Grille was established in 1994 by Daniel Lemanske, a native Grosse Pointer and 1980 graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School. Village Grille is located on Kercheval across from the new Kroger.

The Grille opened in 1994 with four booths, 10 tables, and a lunch counter. In 1995, City Council approved a liquor license. The counter was replaced by a 12-seat bar and more booths were added.

In September 2009, Lemanske took over the space next door which was formally Sherman Shoes. Many thought it was move with the economy failing. "If you sit on your hands and do nothing in a bad economy, you will die," says Lemanske. "All businesses have a set life span, some longer than others. You have to change and reinvent yourself."

Village Grille underwent a complete renovation, turning the original space into a sports bar atmosphere with multiple big screen TVs, a large granite bar and French doors that open onto the patio. The new space was transformed into a dining room with outdoor seating around it and a game room for kids. In December 2010, a 60-person banquet room was added for events such as sports team banquets, showers, birthdays, Christmas parties, wedding rehearsals, and business meetings. It is equipped with a large projection screen for presentations.

The restaurant is very family-friendly. "I modeled it after what my family was looking for — affordable and kid-friendly," said Lemanske.

Village Grille offers a wide selection of food and beverages, including 20 different draft beers, pizza, salads, burgers (ground fresh daily from Alexander & Polen, and served on artesian rolls), sandwiches, pastas, Mexican dishes, and fresh fish dinners such as perch and whitefish.

"We are constantly changing and coming up with new ideas to please our customers," says Lemanske. "We appreciate suggestions — they’re what help us to grow."

The Grille is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, starting at 8 am daily.
