About Kris Kringle Haus
Kris Kringle Haus is now a seasonal Christmas store that is open only for the holiday season, offering a breath-taking selection of the finest European-made , and American-made decorations and collectibles - over 10,000 different items!
After operating in Geneva, Illinois, for over 16 years as the state's largest Christmas shop, Kris Kringle Haus closed that location in 2006, and now opens seasonally in the Orland area. Owners Jim and Cleo Gierucki, who live in the Palos area, say the new commute to work "is a dream" compared to their previous 80 mile round trip, 7-day a week trek to Geneva.
From the opening in 1990, Kris Kringle Haus has tried to bring the very best of the traditional German "Christkindlmarkt" (Christmas market) here to Chicagoland. "We do offer several significant improvements over an authentic Chrsitkindlmarkt ", says Jim Gierucki. "First, we're inside where it is nice and warm , and dry. Second , instead of offering only German-made glass ornaments , pyramids , smokers , nutcrackers , etc. , We have items from Poland ,Italy , the Czech and Slovak Republics , Ireland , Russia , Austria , and Scandinavia. Third, because we do our own importing direct from Europe, these items are available at a lower cost than if you flew to Europe to buy them yourself (the value-added tax in europe is 20%, and is collected by the manufacturer and the retailer, adding over 40% to their cost - which we do not have ). Fourth, we have found some of the finest hand-made crafts that are still manufactured in the good 'ol USA, and offer them for your consideration."
If you are a fan of Christmas, you owe it to yourself to come and visit Kris Kringle Haus, and see the difference in the quality, detail ,originality, and workmanship in the vast selection available. "Everybody sells Christmas in December , even the gas stations; but if you could make all of our competitors made-in-you-know-where knockoffs disappear, they would have nothing left to sell, and we would still be in business ", says Cleo.
