Welcome to Matador Restaurant! Back in the 1950's, Raymond Tejada Sr. and his father opened Matador Drive-In in Taylor, MI that sold Mexican food which wasn't all that popular during that time. Using family made recipes they sold tacos, tostadas, tamales and enchiladas with other American food. Most of their sales were in carry-outs due to only being able to seat about a dozen customers.
In 1970, Alfred gave the restaurant to Ray and Margaret who ran the business with their children and friends to help out. Matador was expanded in 1975 to its current size. Since then, Alfred and Ray, Sr. have both passed on leaving Margaret and Tejado to continue running the family business.
Matador had its 50th year in the business in September of 2004 while still being run by the same family. Due to this restaurant serving for so many family bonds and special moments there have been many occasions celebrated here. We hope you feel as welcome into our family when you visit here at Matador!
On November 4th, 2014 Matador Restaurant received Michigan's Food and Agriculture Award from Corp! Magazine!
