The Potter family’s fruit growing began in the early 1900’s with Great Grandpa Nicholas Potter. Nicholas grew melons and sold them down on Fulton Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nicholas' grandson Les Potter, born in 1941, was “famous” for his peach orchard on Burton Street in Grandville where he ran U-Pick. In the early 1970's he sold 1,000 ½ bushels of peaches a day during the month of August.

Les Potter & his youngest daughter, Tina purchased a farm house in Allendale on the corner of 68th Ave. and Fillmore in 1998 with the dream of starting a fruit market home location. The house was used in the late 1800's as a stage coach stop. Les and Tina seized the opportunity to start Potter Orchards, Inc in 2005. Les used his farming knowledge and Tina used her marketing knowledge, to start a successful Father and Daughter business. Expansion happened rapidly with five greenhouses going up to include perennials and annuals to expand their business at this location and also the locations in Jenison and Standale.

In 2001 Les and Tina purchased a 12 acre blueberry field where they grow some of the best blue crop blueberries in Michigan. Business was booming and they found a commercial property on U.S. 31 and Port Sheldon Ave. to open the fourth retail location. Sadly, Les passed away in 2013. Still, Tina is dedicated to keeping Potter Orchards, Inc. successful and has plans to expand the success of Potter Orchards with a commercial kitchen.

We have four locations to serve you. We open in May in Allendale, Standale and Holland with perennials and annuals and fresh asparagus, and we open our Jenison location in June with Michigan Strawberries! We are open 7 days a week.
